Republican Joins Council

The Republican Party’s five-year absence from the Township Council officially came to an end Tuesday when John O’Sullivan was sworn in and joined the council for his first meeting.  Mr. O’Sullivan defeated Democratic incumbent Mahesh “Mac” Shah in last week’s election with a vote total of 5,244 to 5,069, the first time a Republican has won a council election since 2000. Recently the South Brunswick Township Council passed a $49M budget, which they declared “difficult”, but required deferring $1.3M in pension payments to be repaid beginning in 2012.
