No-Discussion Council Like Bobble Head Dolls
Letter to the Editor of the Sentinel
January 18, 2007

I am writing in response to South Brunswick Deputy Mayor Carol Barrett's recent comment in a daily newspaper in which she said, "We [Democrat members of the Township Council] do have differences of opinion many times, but we will never fight and argue in public on the dais."

My question is where and when do you have these discussions or air differences?  If three or more council members are gathering to discuss township issues this is considered a meeting and must be noticed to the public.

My second comment is that if you are intelligent mature adults you should be able to express differences of opinions without arguing and fighting.  As in any group or family we can differ in opinion but as councilmen/women you need to do your homework as to why you vote as you do, and not just be "yes" voters to show solidarity.  If "Saturday
Night Live" did a skit on this "no discussion council," they might well use bobble head dolls.
